About Conifer Grove
Conifer Grove is a coastal suburb of South Auckland positioned along the eastern shoreline of the Pahurehure Inlet, part of the Manukau Harbour. The suburb was established around 1974 on what was previously farmland, and roughly a fifth of the area was set aside as nature reserves from the outset, which is where the name Conifer Grove comes from.
The suburb is really made up of two distinct parts. The original Conifer Grove is built around quiet cul-de-sac streets, internal reserves, and waterfront walkways, with many residents having lived there for decades. Across the motorway, Waiata Shores is a newer and considerably denser development built on the site of the old Manukau Golf Course, with a mix of two to five bedroom homes on smaller sections.
Great South Road forms the eastern boundary of the suburb, and Conifer Grove sits within the Manurewa-Papakura ward, forming the western edge of the wider Takanini urban area. The waterfront walkways along the inlet are a defining feature, linking much of the neighbourhood together and giving residents easy access to the coastline on foot.
